Today, I choose peace
Written by Adedayo Ademokoya
When I say I choose peace, it’s not by the world’s standard but I have consciously made the effort of appreciating the mundane—the birds flying, how the wind make leaves dance, my heartbeat, how my lungs have gotten used to the mechanism of breathing in oxygen and giving out carbondioxide—making beauty out of them.
Every moment I tend like a garden blossoming with attractive flowers. I collect memories and put them in the museum of my heart where only I can reach—not for regret but to see how time flies.
When I say I choose peace, I choose to be still. Not minding what happens next because it is okay for sanity. I don’t know how to get deep into myself without being calm. Every letter that graces this page is as a result of my choice; being quiet.
In a frantic world where everyone is buzzed up to the point of insanity, I choose peace because it is the best thing to do. When nature saw that the world will not calm, in a bid to apply the brakes of sanity, a pandemic evolved and we all are learning the concept of peace.
Learning to hear from our inner selves that have been shut out with busyness. Why not choose peace before turmoil makes you know the importance of serenity. Why not choose harmony before war makes you know the cost of destruction.
In that moment of stillness—of calming tranquillity, of choice—I have been able to see that life is indeed how we take it. I makechoices everyday not to fight for things beyond my control, not to lose myself in the little things but to appreciate life as it comes, to make sure I breathe.
Today, I choose peace for myself to be wrapped around itsmystery and blossom like a sunflower exposed to the morninglight.
Today, choose peace because you can!
