What is to this life?
Oh money, how useless you are
Wealth, can’t you save in days of trouble?
Money, more need.
I was eagerly looking out for money 8 years ago. When my heartless friend introduced me to a cunning way of getting rich. Little did I know that the consequences would be much greater than I’d imagined. The only language I understood was money then.
I accepted to murder my junior sister because of money. I didn’t kill her with a gun or knife but I was told to choose any of my close blood relations. I love my parents, and I cherished my only elder brother, so I chose my younger sister.
I was asked to mention her name and my mother’s name and I came back home weeping in my heart.
When I got home that day, my younger sister was the first person to hug me and smile as usual. Suddenly, I remembered that she would die soon due to what I had agreed to do. But I couldn’t stop it, I had been told that nothing could be changed again.
On the fourth day after, she fell sick and the doctor attending to her approached my mum to explain that my sister would need to be taken abroad for treatment, requesting 750 thousand naira immediately. I made sure I convinced them not to pay because I knew she would die.
It was the early hours of the sixth day that my mum called from the hospital that my sister had died. I was happy because I had been told that she will die for me to be rich or I will die instead and lose money. We all mourned the departure of my younger sister.
Going back to where my friend took me, the herbalist congratulated me and welcome me to the world of riches but suddenly I saw the appearance of my dead sister in the shrine. I was afraid but Baba told me not to be afraid because I will continue to see her like that every day.
Riches came true and I went to start a business just to cover up that I made money from a Mephistophelean source. Many journalists, entrepreneurs, and youths came to me just to know what made me a millionaire overnight (in less than 6 months.)
I needed to lie to them just to cover up and most of them kept practising what I said but without any result. I knew they couldn’t get any results because I know my source of riches.
My parents were thanking God for me because I uplift the family name but without knowing my source. As a Christian, I was being celebrated in churches but nobody cared to know my source. All they saw was a responsible and well-to-do member of society.
After 3 years, I was tired of seeing my dead sister every day crying while giving me the money she’d paid for with her life. I went to the herbalist to undo everything but he said it was not possible again.
After telling me the dangers that surround not taking the money from her, due to my emotional weakness, I refused to do the normal routine.
Then it started. I saw her every minute and seconds of the day. I tried to take this. The following day, she started whipping me and then I was pressed to confess because on the last day, she beat me to a stupor.
I landed in the hospital. But no one could see the ghost flogging me. After my confession in the hospital, I began to see different evil things around me.
After hearing my confession, my mother collapsed, hitting her head against the wall of the hospital. Two days after, I was informed of her passing. My mother died as a result.
I killed my sister and mother and caused psychological trauma to my family.
My life became a living hell.
I was about to die when one drama minister entered and preached to me, he was surprised to hear my confession because I was a sponsor for his ministry also.
He prayed for me and his prayers disconnected me from every evil cult I had engaged in.
I began to get better but my life had taken a turn for the worse. Much worse than I’d started out with. I now live a life of penury, I have to beg before I can get something to eat.
I remembered a portion of the scripture which says, no sinner will go unpunished.
What is the meaning of life?
I have even forgotten that I had riches, that seemed a lifetime ago.
