The 2018 OSCA WOVEN WORDS COMPETITION was organized by My Woven Words  and it was only for undergraduates of tertiary institutions in Osun State as approved by the ministry of education, Osun state. There were Terms and Conditions for contestants.

OSCA Woven Words Competition remains the “first-of-its-kind” and “one-of-its-kind” in Osun state, Nigeria. To avoid Conflicts of Interest, we reached out to a number of unbiased scholars in a university outside Osun State to assess the submitted manuscripts and select the best contestants. All the contestant got a certificate of participation and some of the submitted manuscripts were selected for online publication.

ILU AJE (TOWN OF WITCHES): A TOWN IN OYO STATE

Below is the write up submitted by the winner of OSCA WOVEN WORDS COMPETITION Mercy Oluwaseun, a student of the department of Medicine and Surgery, Bowen University Iwo.

PRIZE: N50,000 Cash Prize and a Certificate Award

TOPIC: The Tenacity of Nigerian Youths in National Development and Leadership Roles.

We once had a blossoming nation

Turned into a corrupted collaboration

Leaders claiming to be nation builders

All liars! They were nation destroyers

Oh! Tenacious youths, our future feels the sting…

They lured youthful minds with drugs

Turning them into potential political thugs

Set our future on the line leaving us in pain

All for excessive fame and selfish gains

Oh! Tenacious youths feel the bitterness of the greed!

They forgot fame is a fragrance of heroic deeds

Of flowers of chivalry and not even of weeds

Inexperience they claimed would lead us the wrong way

Having actually done a better job at leading us astray

Oh! Tenacious youths feel the tyranny!

Minds chronically infested with low morality

Feigning derision for fear of our tenacity

Agile youths full of energy, strength and vigor

Fighting for nation reformation with much rigor

Oh! Tenacious youths press to win this war!

We were once ruler and shakers of the world of sports

Winning so many medals with our nations support

The nation talked happily about our achievements all day

The future would be bright was what they would say

Oh! Tenacious youths how beautiful it could have been!

In the world of music we were always engaged

Our talents with much energy we always displayed

With so much passion we put smiles on thousands with our entertainment

Tourism at its peak because the world was amazed by our enchantment

Oh! Tenacious youths having so much beauty within!

With the strength and vision of an eagle

Tenacity driving us to end this struggle

Recognizing that our nation is so momentous

Filled with youths all so smart and ingenious

Oh! Tenacious youths fight for your pride!

Youths are building blocks of every nation

We will work hard to get adequate information

We would not be rulers without information

Ruling a nation without a sense of direction

Oh! Tenacious youths proving your worth!

Lack of financial ability may be our vulnerability

But we would live our dreams in oneness and unity

Just as the sun smiles on without displeasure

So will the moon shine brightly on our future

Oh! Tenacious youths there is hope on the horizon!

Tenacity sometimes causes the desired change not innovation

And this we have, we will give with so much determination

We will keep fighting recurrent brain drain

Bringing our folks home, thus brain gain

Oh! Tenacious youths behold development for the Nation!

An end we will bring to dichotomy between the rich and the poor

Achieving this by channeling ideas and potentials to open greatness door

We would not be overwhelmed by challenges we face

Holding on with determination for it is a passing phase

Oh! Tenacious youths victory will be ours!

Our unity is in our number, in number we are strengthened

Our strength is in our resolve to bring a change so desired

Wars may be waged and storms be raged

But our tenacity will remain unchanged!
