TOPIC: The Tenacity of Nigerian Youths in National Development and Leadership Roles.

ABSTRACT

This research work entails how persistent youths are, how they should be treated in relation to developing our nation, fulfilling leadership roles,

enhanced measures that should be taken to overcome the challenges and secure a good future. Youth participation should be institutionalized in issues.

INTRODUCTION

“The youth are recognized not only as future leaders but also as actors              and foundation of our society, with a direct stake in the development          process of our great nation…”    Aishat Ismail (2001) New Nigerian

Nigerian youths are young citizens of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Tenacity means persistence, tenaciousness and strength of will.

National development is the process and ability of a country to reconstruct in various dimensions a nation, develop citizens by providing them with social amenities like infrastructure, medical care and more.

Leadership is a responsibility performed by people with good characteristics. It involves the action of leading people towards achieving good goals.

The strong will and persistence of youth towards the development of our motherland; “Nigeria” would be inspired through good leadership, plan and vision.

BODY

Nigerian youth play a big role in developing the country. They should be included in National development acts and Leadership roles in our nation. Though, in reality, the voice of youths is not being heard in our motherland and they need to be listened to considering the implications of shifting their views and the role they play in the society.

Albert Einstein said; “We cannot solve problems by using the same type of thinking we used when we created them”

With the circumstance of things presently in Nigeria, it is easily perceived that Nigeria needs fresh political and economical thoughts to confront the, uninspiring atmosphere of leadership being experienced. Leadership skills has shifted from the ancient characteristics of age, experience and maturity to the level of competence, amount of civilization that determine the country’s vision, character that is worth emulating and post-modern dynamic of innovation. This would determine whether the future of our nation is secured or not.

Countries like China unveiled new set of leaders years back who are securing the future of their nation. The major drawback in achieving a good political leadership especially in Nigeria may be rooted downto; the stereotypical perception of age as synonymous with experience and wisdom.

CONCLUSION

The youths are our greatest asset. There should be future orientation for our youth that leads to achieving our nation’s goals. According to key goals concept paper from the presidency, by 2020, Nigeria will be the twentieth largest economy in Africa. This can only be achieved by good leadership which involves adequate characteristics of a leader, appropriate planning without sentiment and segregation.
