OSCA WOVEN WORDS COMPETITION – GBADEBO OYINADE

“Imagination gives birth to things unknown but the writer’s pen turns them into shapes and gives to them living breaths.”

The 2018 OSCA WOVEN WORDS COMPETITION was organized by My Woven Words  and it was only for undergraduates of tertiary institutions in Osun State as approved by the ministry of education, Osun state. There were Terms and Conditions for contestants.

OSCA Woven Words Competition remains the “first-of-its-kind” and “one-of-its-kind” in Osun state, Nigeria. To avoid Conflicts of Interest, we reached out to a number of unbiased scholars in a university outside Osun State to assess the submitted manuscripts and select the best contestants. All the contestant got a certificate of participation and some of the submitted manuscripts were selected for online publication.

TOPIC: The Tenacity of Nigerian Youths in National Development and Leadership Roles.

Dr Nnamdi Azikwe, Chief Anthony Enahoro, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Yakubu Gowon, Isaac Boro all of Nigeria these are the names of youths that through their actions have made an impact by not being by-standers or mere onlookers not only in their various countries but also the world at large. In different countries of the world we see many reformation that have come about due to the youths intervention whether it was leading her country to the freedom by Joan of arc France, or freedom from child labour Iqbal Masih of Pakistan, or right to education Malala Yousafai of Pakistan, or independence from colonisation Dr Nnamdi Azikwe, Chief Anthony Enahoro, Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

Who is a youth? , according to the United Nations Educational and Scientific and Cultural Organisation it is the transition from the dependence of childhood to adulthood independence awareness our interdependence as members of a community.

Tenacity, the act of being tenacious which means persistence of purpose, being unwilling to accept defeat, to never give in, to hold onto something tightly, it also means being adamant not taking no for an answer. This is a major characteristic of youths.

Youths in any country play a very vital role if not the most important role in the development of that country, youths make up most of the country they are the labour market, in politics and all sectors of the country  which aid the building restoration etc. of the country.

The country Nigeria as a region’s history is dated is dated back to as far back a 1100 BC it was invaded by the British in 1851 and became a British protectorate in 1901 and got her independence on 1stOctober 1960 which was brought about by Sir Herbert Macaulay chief, Dr Nnamdi Azikewe, professor Eyo Ita founded the Nigerian youth movement founded in 1933. Herbert Macaulay also founded the Nigerian National Democratic Party which was the first Nigerian political party and won all the seats of the election and introduced the idea of nationalism in all parts of the country.

It was chief Obafemi Awolowo that introduced free education to the western part of Nigeria which provided education for over millions of children in Nigeria, both he and Dr Nnamdi Azikewe made the first Nigerian owned newspaper which they used for the political interest of the society

Youth Initiative for Sustainable Agriculture (YISA) Nigeria having discovered agriculture job creation in Nigeria and to help agricultural growth and in turn economic growth.

There is also the not too young to run bill that was introduced on 31st may 2018 by youths to aid political participation of youths and through them national development.

On this note I would like to end on the note that youths are the future of this country and are willing to assist its growth.
