BUSINESS TIPS FOR STARTUPS – JUMOKE ADEMOLA
Tips on how to start a business
- Identify/find your passion
There can be no successful business without a driving passion In order to start or run a business, the motivation or drive to keep going starts with the passion you have in that field.
The question then is how do you identify your passion?
Your passion lies in what you love, what you find yourself doing or engaging in or even interested in no matter the time of the day. It’s what makes you want to check more, do more, discover more. It’s much more than a hobby or just our day today activity.
2. Check for the problem you are solving or idea you are contributing to the society:
For every successful Enterprise or business in a society the Mastermind behind it always seeks to solve a problem or contribute to the progress of that area of life or society. Take for instance, A bowenites just launched her fashion line named Indolo with her view to provide ready to wear clothes for plus size women and not just any kind of ready to wear but well fitted and at affordable prices. To some people it might seem cliche but it goes a long way because most plus size people buy clothes at expensive rates and this sort of initiative promotes body positivity in that it serves to provide cloth that catches every curve and dip in plus size women and at pocket friendly prices.
3. Identify your market
Another major thing to do is to identify your market. Who are you doing this for ? What group of people or sect of the society stand to gain from this business ? What do you have to offer and how much does it add to the society? What difference does it make? The essence of this is that you don’t end up venturing or starting a business for a market that is remote to you. Take for instance, it’s not exactly reasonable so to say to start selling items targeted at individuals ages 60 upwards on a university campus because ordinarily any business a student is to venture into on campus should be something in which the target market is mainly students or young adults.
4. Create a mind map of where you want to start and where you want to end up
The tricky thing about starting a business is that someone somewhere has started it already but where you stand to differ is how you go about it and what idea or initiative you add to make it different or stand out from others in that field. Because of this very reason it’s important that you have a mind map or a vision board of what you want, how you want to go about it, the approach that you would go about it to make yours stand out from others and most importantly how you want to end up. There’s no point of starting or venturing into something if you don’t have expectations on what your goal is or how you want it to end up.
Also you can’t jump into a business from start to finish but having a mind map gives a form of trails or tracks on how you want to start, where you want to be, the steps you are going to take and how you want to end up.
