THE WORLD WE LIVE IN TODAY
These days, we all have our heads buried in our phones,
Reading words and lost in worlds beyond our reach. We detest the life we have and crave that of others. We spend our time glued to screens, and living the life of others, so when we are jolted back to reality, discontent becomes the order of the day. The feeling like every other person has it better than we do leads to a loss of self esteem and self worth.
Everybody wants to feel special in some type of way. So we all come on social media to post things about ourselves that aren’t true. We use the social media as a tool to portray ourselves to the world as who we are not, but wish we were.
The social media scene is gradually turning us all into wannabes, an insatiable and ungrateful generation, who have lost the true sense of what is real and important, holding true to the ‘fake it till you make it’ lingo.
It’s funny how we’ll post pictures of our good looking friends (slayers), and never that of others, enhancing better relationships. We even make friends with physically good-looking people all for the purpose of uploading their pictures. We follow celebrities and brands, we view pictures of expensive things that are above our budget, till we start craving them, and reality checks us to not live above our means. So consequentially, to keep up appearances, we get involved in illicit and illegal businesses and dealings, and eventually when these castles we have built in the air come crashing down, we jump back on social media claiming depression.
Now this is not to say we shouldn’t aspire for a better life but always remember there’s a very thin and easily obliterated line between Greed and Ambition!
Contented is the new wealthy!
