In a small county in Lyon Nevada, a call came to the fire station about a house on fire. On getting to the scene after dousing the fire, they realized that the occupants of the house have been shot dead at a close range to the head. It looked like a robbery gone wrong because the house was ransacked with the cloth covering the dead couple. The cops investigated and found shell casing of bullet on the floor, and also a plate of the car that was caught in the fire. The Police called in for information about the owner if it was for the couple. It belonged to a man, a notorious robber who has been in and out of jail. So, there was a lead for the detectives. The lead trailed to a suspect’s house. While at the suspect’s house, they got a call from a dispatch officer that a body had been found. A woman while driving out of the state had seen a red truck with newspapers flying out and she parked on the road and she felt it was not regular matter, so, she decided to call the cops. The cops asked the woman to step aside and stay in the car for a thorough check. A body was recovered which was covered in blood and there was an ID which was confirmed to be Eliazar Graham whom they found his plate at the fire and murder scene.
They also discovered that the couple’s car (Barbara and Dotty Papes) was found close to the body. The detectives were stunned that their only lead was shot in the head and this further compounded the investigation. They established that there was a notorious killer on the loose. On the second day, there was intense investigation at the Pape’s house for more clues and at that moment, another 911 call came in which was dispatched to the state Police close to the area.
A couple has been shot dead and their House has been ransacked and 5 people dead within 48 hours. There have not been any fingerprints so far and the whole area was then shut down to restrict movement for security reasons.
While conducting the investigation, a 911 call came in and students came back from school to see the house that has been broken into. This was two houses away from the house of the second couple (Lester Leiber and Angie Duff). The cops surrounded the house and blocked every exit. The SWAT team further went into the house and discovered a bundle of 100 Dollars the intruder had probably stolen. A man came out with his hands up and surrendered to the cops.
He was later identified as Jeremiah Diaz Bean. In his statement, he was broke and needed money. So, he burgled the Pape’s house and killed the couples because they caught him. He was also involved in the killing of Eliazar when the stolen car got stuck to the mud. He concluded by saying that he went back to Pape’s house to find more to steal and set the house on fire with Eliazar’s car in the garage.
He pleaded guilty to the charges after the ballistics of the bullet in the first murder scene matched his gun. He was sentenced to death.
