We were not called our names but
Our numbers, as the day ages, Alawi
the only sound that made sense,
Few days to go yet seems a decade
to us. Soon we will no longer hear the trumpet’s call, Corpers food is ready, and
we will no longer sleep in our minds.
But things never seized to unravel here
in Awgu camp. Hmm when a man says
yes, his Chi says yes too, but there was
a man whose Chi said Nay and that was Emma’s not me, Emmanuel is a tall
handsome boy admired by all. One
faithful day in parade ground his eyes
got imprisoned by a transparent short
which he tried resisting but his Chi said
Nay that was how I realized man has 3
legs the third usually the middle one.
Parade is now tensed and fierce
Our pains now oesophagus deep
Nepotism the umbrella shading the sun
Girls now trade themselves in the
Great Market of P.P.A Posting
While men pay in cash and crash
They pay in cash, cheque and kind
Tell me why won’t they be favoured?
Indeed all animals are equal but there
are some that are more equal to the
others and these are girls. Oh, this is
almost 3 weeks without romance,
kiss or smooching. I still wonder what
would these guys do during their
P.P.A am sure they will forget, plantain
Is sweeter when it’s ripe, as they would no longer trace a ripe fruit from its attractive succulent color.
Climbing is now our hobby as it
Is the most frequent we do, while
going to toilet we climb, to the kitchen
we climb, to parade we also climb and
even to church And the result was a
gross pain on our undefiled thighs. But
then their was one climbing whose result
was pregnancy and men eager to take a
climb. Drunkenness was Now an habit, as
the day zoomed by, Udeme and Linda
sank in bear Forgetting the regimented
nature of the Camp but when I saw their
beards lited with fire I decided to use
water to Wash mine to avoid embarrassment.
As the day passes by like wind
One of our greatest challenges
Was no longer sleep but sex
Our waist have become heavy
And their seem no way to discharge
Without committing the science
Instead, we commit the act itself.
On Friday at the buggles call
We all rushed down to the centre
But at 9, we heard a huge scream
Hieroglyphically written on the walls
Ough, ough, oh oh, ough ough
When the soldiers went lo lo
It was the formidable act itself
The boy said nothing but the woman
screamed the devils work. But as the
Igbo’s will say, you do not kill a man
that says nothing, that was how she
carried National Youth Service over!.
