Alma Mater – Adetoye Comfort
SHARE THIS POST:

Great is my alma mater, land of diversity

A world on its own, making a brotherhood out of differing tongues

Built on Christ’s foundation, tongues may wag for however long

Beautiful, beautiful, Bowen University.

I have lived and loved in this beautiful land

Through the Reverend’s words every Sunday

Through the hostel Supervisor’s knocks on my door every morning

Through the one week-prepared projects every other week

I have lived through the annoying gazes I meet at Munchies’ every other night

I have seen and heard in this controversial land……..Oh, pardon not my words for the truth begs no pardon

…Seen the things I thought my eyes would not come across

Seen the innocent gape open-mouthed in wonder as a fellow innocentee fell for lies from one bros

Heard the rumours of riot, and suspension, and rustication

I have heard the voice of the Vice Chancellor shatter my hopes of early holidays countless times.

I have passed and failed in this beautiful land

Passed tests; class tests as well as various non-academic tests I would rather not talk about

Passed around rumours of new aws, as well as the distributed pamphlets on Thursday evenings

Failed a few tests and a few friends, some of which I regret

I have failed to obey certain laws, for of course no one is perfect in this land

I have lived and loved in this beautiful land

Loved friends, students and staffs alike

Loved certain courses and activities more than others

Loved every bit of the tears I cried and the anger I felt, for what they taught me

I have loved every bit of disappointment and fear I experienced, for who they made me.

Great is my alma mater, land of diversity

A world on its own, making a brotherhood out of differing tongues

Built on Christ’s foundation, though tongues may wag for however long

Beautiful, beautiful Bowen University.
