According to Wikipedia, the definition of luck varies by the philosophical, religious, mystical and emotional context of the one interpreting it; according to the classic Noah Webster‘s dictionary, luck is “a purposeless, unpredictable and uncontrollable force that shapes events favourably or unfavourably for an individual, group or cause”. Yet the author Max Gunther defines it as “events that influence one’s life and are seemingly beyond one’s control”
As defined above, luck is something that is beyond our control. No doubt, everybody wants to be a lucky one. Whoever is called a lucky person is seen as a successful being or has succeeded on something. People feel lucky whenever they survive a scary scenario or excel at something they never expected they could achieve. Even, when someone happens to overcome a near miss or accident we call it a luck. Luck is, therefore, nothing but the perspective of something either good or bad that occurs by chance.
Furthermore, luck is believed to be something we don’t have because it is beyond our control. Also, people often believe it is something that is neither from God nor nature. For me, I see luck as what people adopt to create the false meaning of what that can’t do or they didn’t put efforts onto. Being lucky, it is by achieving undesired goals. Though, there are people who don’t even believe in luck at all. Luck can also be classified into two; Good luck and bad luck.
Examples of luck:
- Scoring a good grade in a paper you believed you performance awfully.
- Finding a money on the street or other valuable objects.
- Winning an event you have a negative assumption on.
- Guessing an answer correctly to a question you don’t even know during a quiz.
- Scoring a poor grade despite answering all the questions very well.
- Scaling through an accident at the last minute.
- Being born in a poor or wealthy family.
- Not getting employed despite graduating with a better grade.
A Lucky Man is a Man of Preparation
A lucky man is never an unprepared one. He plans and gets prepared ahead of the task. The misconception is that whoever people think he does not deserve a success is a lucky man which indirectly means he didn’t prepare at all. The thinking is that he can’t achieve such wonderful or amazing thing because he didn’t to achieve it. They also think the preparation of so described as lucky person is not that adequate. The fact is that a lucky person also prepares ahead of any task or goal.
A Lucky Man is a Man of Hardworking
Another element of a lucky person is hardworking. Do you think because he is described as lucky that means he does not work hard? Hardworking pays off as luck sometimes. People don’t realize luck doesn’t come cheaply without passing through some rigorous efforts. Since people don’t know the sacrifice or efforts you put on to achieve a huge success they will definitely see it as luck.
Also, those we describe as unlucky people or bad luck, we believe they suffer or miss on achieving something they deserve. The so-called unlucky people miss those chances because of over-confidence sometimes or focusing or something else rather than the task ahead of them. Finally, luck is usually a result of hardworking and preparation.
